Because I often get queries about the realities of selling up and buying a gite complex in France, I thought it would be interesting to look at some real-life examples. Query 1 - buying a gite complex in Normandy

You can keep your name secret (even from us)! You can set up a new email in a false name if you like (try hotmail!). The goal is not to expose your personal financial situation to the whole world, rather to show some real life examples of the challenges and decisions that people face.

If you send us as much information as possible about your plan we will try and explain whether you can expect your project to succeed.

The information you should send could include (estimated where necessary):

- How much cash you will have available in total (usually after selling an existing property and paying off a mortgage)

- How much you plan to spend on purchasing the property

- How much you expect to spend on renovation, and what the estimate is based on

- What type of gites that will provide, and in what location

- any other income you will have / are hoping to earn

- How old you are and how old any children are

- Any other significant financial information (pension, maturing saving policies etc)

- We will then look at the costs and income that you have budgeted and publish a summary here, followed by an assessment of the viability of the project, with reasons for our conclusions.
